The way To Restore Wooden Gouges in Cabinet Doors
How to fix small but annoying gouges in your beautiful wooden cabinetry, and make them look great for longer. The following is a guide to help you fix wood gouges the right way:
Preparation
You are going to need those things to do the repair. Step 1: gather you stuff before starting the repair.
220 Grit or Higher Fine Sand Paper
Wood filler or epoxy putty (ad)(ad).
Putty knife
Clean cloth
Wood stain (if needed)
Clear finish
The Repair Process
Sanding and cleansing the exposed surface
Shave off any burrs as well as lightly smooth out the edges of the gouge with some fine-grit sandpaper. Dust it off with a clean cloth.
Apply wood filler
Force wood filler or epoxy putty into the gouge with a putty knife. Slightly overfill to account for shrinkage
Allow filler to dry
Allow the filler to dry completely depending on what product you are using. This usually requires a few hours.
Sand the filled area
After the filler is completely dry, sand it down so that it is level with the rest of the wood. Wipe away dust.
Stain and finish
-Apply wood stain as necessary to mimic the cabinet color. When it is dry, go over the stain with a clear seal.
This process may have to be repeated for deep gouges. Be sure to follow the same grain of wood when you are sanding and finishing so your repair is seamless.
